Peniche – surfers paradise in summer, ghost town in winter

After spending a day in the colorful Obidos we wanted to visit a coastal town and Peniche happened to be nearby. Lively summer surfing capital remains quite forgotten when the surfing season is over and we seemed to be the only visitors that day.

It is a perfect place for a calm stroll along the coastline. The weather wasn’t that good at the time of our visit but the views were quite rewarding. Both beauty of nature and colorful, distinct architecture makes this coastal town as much a travel destination off-season as it is in the summer. And we really enjoyed having the place all to ourselves.

P.S. There are also the Berlengas islands, which you can only reach by boat in the summertime. Missing a visit to this nature reserve was the only disadvantage we saw spending time in Peniche off-season.
